If you are employed by the NHS, then you benefit from life insurance cover and lump sum benefits from your pension.

The default position is that in the absence of a nomination the lump sum payment will be paid to an adult that is dependant on you at the date of your death (spouse, civil partner or qualifying scheme partner). There is also provision if you have dependant children.

However, it is important to note that the Trustees of the scheme have discretion on where the money goes. For that reason, if you want to be certain where the money goes then you need to complete the nomination process.
